Seeing me watch Nova, my daughter Isabella figured out my love for astrophysics and astronomy. Periodically she likes to walk by the TV to say, "Hey, its not too late!"  Isabella is the inspiration for the Senior Learning Initiative. Its not too late to follow your dreams!

Free Educational Opportunities

Illinois Senior Citizen Courses Act 


Do you know, Illinois public institutions are permitted to waive tuition cost for any person enrolled over the age of 65? 


"Public institutions of higher education" means the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, and the public community colleges.

University of the People (UoPeople) is the Education Revolution. They are the first non-profit, tuition-free, American accredited online university. Dedicated to opening access to higher education globally, UoPeople is designed to help qualified high school graduates overcome financial, geographic, political, and personal constraints keeping them from collegiate studies.


The University offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, Computer Science, and Health Science as well as master’s degree programs in Business Administration and Education. UoPeople was founded in 2009 and accredited in February 2014. Today, it has over 27,000 students enrolled from more than 200 countries and territories. 1,000 of these students are refugees, of whom 600 are Syrian.
